Lifelong Jewish Learning at Beth Evergreen
Our Educational Program strives to provide meaningful learning experiences for all members of our congregation, and to share those experiences with the greater Evergreen community.
Religious School Mission Statement
Our primary goal is to share a love of Judaism and Jewish learning that enables us and our children to exemplify the best of Jewish and human values in the context of communal life. Through formal and informal education, we strive to plant the seeds and nurture the growth of lifelong intergenerational learning.
Congregation Beth Evergreen Education Program at a Glance
Beth Evergreen Religious School offers nine months of instruction in Jewish traditions, values, Torah, as well as prayerbook Hebrew, for students in grades Pre-K thru 6. The pre-kindergarten, through 3rd grade classes meet Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Grades 4-6 meet Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Tuition/Fees are listed on the registration form and can be downloaded off the website. Scholarships are available to assist those in need.

The Youth B’nei Mitzvah Program includes values-based study of weekly Torah portions, the Shabbat service, Jewish ethics and spirituality. The B’nei Mitzvah class also gathers weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. Parental participation (as always) is encouraged. The B'nei Mitzvah Handbook may be found in the "downloadable forms" section of religious school page.

Hebrew High students include 8th-12th graders who meet weekly on Wednesday nights from 6:15-8:00 p.m. (dessert provided). Their course of study is grounded in an ‘emerging curriculum’ co-created by the students themselves. Recent topics have included, Jewish popular culture, modern Hebrew, sexual ethics, and contemporary Israeli and American political issues.

Youth Group is a social organization for all CBE teenagers. The group typically meets during the school year for field trips, dinners, community service and other activities.

CBE also runs innovative single-sex groups for teens:

“Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing!” is a teen girls’ group that meets monthly with trained mentors to explore contemporary issues and challenges in a supportive Jewish environment.

Kedush Levanah is a teen boys’ group devoted to building character and friendships through monthly outings, activities, and stimulating conversations.

Opportunities for adult learning abound. Rabbi Jamie Arnold hosts a weekly study session on Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Topics vary from year to year. In the last two years, we studied Mishnah and moved on to Mussar (Mussar is a traditional Jewish moral discipline that deliberately engages in the routine ‘encounters’ of daily life). Regular Torah study led by Rabbi Jamie is offered on the second and fourth Saturday mornings of each month. Torah discussions are conducted either as part of the Shabbat morning service, or, in the event of a bar/bat mitzvah, prior to the service at 9:00 AM. These sessions are open to the community. See the Shofar calendar or website calendar for details. Weekday evening seminars scheduled throughout the year often feature both local and international educators, tapping the expertise of people like you. If you are interested in teaching at CBE please contact us. We want to learn with and from you.
