These are challenging times. Here is a small sampling of ways we can engage with the community during this global health crisis.
If you are a former or retired healthcare worker, Gov. Polis’ Help CO Now, a coordinated statewide effort to make sure no one falls through the cracks during this health crisis, needs your help at hospitals, testing sites and care facilities. Sign up to volunteer HERE. The Colorado Dept. of Public Health and Environment has also sent out an urgent plea for volunteer medical professionals and administrators to provide free telehealth visits through telephone and/or video chats. Fill out the Medical Professionals for COVID-19 Telehealth Response in Colorado application HERE.
Donate supplies: There is a critical need in Colorado for supplies such as masks, gloves, swabs, cleaning supplies, and baby formula. Sign up HERE (create an account first) to donate supplies. Masks: Our own cade beck, daughter of CBE member Susan Marcus, is coordinating Colorado and Utah for COVID Mask Crafters, which is making masks that fit the specs provided by hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Cade is looking for materials [cotton fabric (old sheets, t-shirts, pillowcases), elastic, bias tape, wire, paper clips, rubber bands, fabric ribbon].
Donate plasma if you are a recovered COVID-19 patient: The Red Cross is seeking people who are fully recovered to donate plasma to help current COVID-19 patients. Get information on how to sign up HERE. Children’s Hospital Colorado is also experimenting to see if the antibodies found in recovered patients can help sick patients fight off the virus, and is seeking plasma. For information on how to donate plasma to Children’s Hospital Colorado, visit HERE.
Sew masks: Do you have a sewing machine? Please join the many thousands of people across the country who are sewing masks. Contact cade.
Connect with others: There are many in our CBE community who are vulnerable, whether because of age, underlying health conditions, or other circumstances. If you are able, please consider becoming a shopping angel for those who are afraid to leave their homes. Or make a phone call, or five, to check in on others. Email Eve to get a list.
Donate money: There are many excellent options. Here are a few: Donate to Help CO Now HERE. Donate to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund HERE. Donate to the World Central Kitchen’s effort to feed people who are food insecure HERE. Donate to Feeding America HERE. Donate to Food Bank of the Rockies and local food banks like the Mountain Resource Center and EChO. Donate to No Kid Hungry.
Be safe and well!
