Summary |
Responsibility is easily associated with personal accountability for our own welfare and behaviors. The deeper meaning of Achrayut is understanding our accountability for the welfare of our world and each other. The liturgical poem “Aleynu” (we must) is a closing prayer for every Jewish service affirming the Jewish obligation of continued work making the world a better place.
Practice - “Just as my ancestors planted trees for me, I too am planting trees for my descendants” - Taanit 23a.15
With the Tu b’Shevat (aka the birthday of the trees) on the horizon this month, consider supporting a local food bank with donations or in-person volunteer time.
